Harvard students partnered with the MBTA to launch a program to save lives along the Red Line.A group of students focused on overdose prevention and education came up with a plan to put naloxone, or Narcan, kits in T stops.“In our research we found that these MBTA stations are associated with a disproportionate number of opioid overdoses, particularly along the Red Line in Cambridge,” said Sajeev Kohli, a Harvard graduate.Kohli said putting Narcan kits in public spaces and making them available to all could be the difference between life and death.“Having someone who’s a friend, a peer, a community member that’s there in case first responders are a little farther away can make a significant difference,” Kohli said. “It’s inexpensive, it’s easy to use, it has minimal side effects if used incorrectly, and there’s empirical data showing bystanders can use this correctly 99% of the time.”The plan went from an idea to a near reality. The students are now working w...Muggy Saturday with a PM shower

Somehow, all this time after that first bright summer of 1984 and then 1985 when he pitched like a right-handed Koufax, somehow nearly four decades after October of 1986 for him and the Mets, Dwight Gooden was laughing on Friday morning about turning 60. And for this old Met, one who will be honored next year at Citi Field for what he did when he was young, it was just one more Amazin’ thing.“I kept thinking it was this year instead of next year,” he said. “I was telling people I was getting ready to turn 60 and then my 13-year old daughter said, ‘Dad, what’s your rush? You’re only 59.”He was a teenager himself when he showed up at Shea Stadium with all that arm and all that fastball and all the promise in the world. He and Darryl Strawberry will be honored for that in 2024, when they each have their numbers retired by Steve Cohen’s Mets. These occasions will not be about what happened to both of them after they were Mets, drugs ...Patriots must make important roster decision without key information

The Patriots are keeping all options on the table as they decide their kicker competition for the 2023 season.Rookie fourth-round pick Chad Ryland is in a heated battle with veteran Nick Folk. Ryland, 23, has the bigger leg and more potential, while Folk, 38, has remained a steady and consistent presence. The Patriots kicked just one field goal during the preseason, a 44-yarder knocked through by Folk. Those rooting for Kayshon Boutte to make the Patriots’ 53-man roster saw good signs Friday night when the rookie wide receiver started but barely played in the team’s preseason finale against the Tennessee Titans.Boutte played a handful of snaps in the first quarter then got to hang out on the sideline with players nearly guaranteed to make the 53-man roster. The 2023 sixth-round pick got out to a slow start with the Patriots during the spring and early part of training camp before impressing as the summer progressed.Related ArticlesNew England Patriots | NFL notes: 4 potential Patriots trades before cutdown day, including a blockbuster New England Patriots | Patriots QB Bailey Zappe on re-entering preseason finale: ‘That was the head man’s decision’ New England Patriots | Patriots have difficult decision to make with Malik Cunningham as cutdowns loom New England Patriots | Callahan: The Patriot...Seven people shot at Boston’s Caribbean Carnival; Council prez calls for 2nd parade to be canceled

HARTFORD, Vt. (AP) — A hot air balloon made an emergency landing on a highway median in Vermont after becoming stalled in flight. Five people were aboard for a sunset ride Wednesday night when the pilot landed the craft safely on the Interstate 91 median in Hartford, the Valley News reported. Drivers reported seeing the balloon hovering 30 feet (about nine meters) in the air over the road before it landed, according to the Hartford Fire Department. Traffic was shut down for about 20 minutes while the balloon was landing. “The pilot-in-command of the aircraft made a precautionary decision as sunset was nearing to land safely rather than taking unnecessary risk,” Quechee Balloon Rides said in a statement. “Our team informed local authorities and officials prior to landing of our intentions so they could assist in ensuring a safe landing,” Balloonist Chris Ritland “did a good job of landing the balloon safely in the median and avoiding any issues,” the Hartford Fire Departm...Latest news
